Product Summary

PC-DMIS for Windows is a full-featured, geometric measurement package. It translates the high-level commands required to measure parts into the detailed steps necessary to drive a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). PC-DMIS for Windows incorporates Microsoft's Windows interface to create, as well as execute part programs. The user can easily begin the measurement process by taking advantage of the drop-down menus, dialog boxes, and icons. The versatility of PC-DMIS' interface also provides an easy way to customize the software to meet the individual specifications.

The Primary goals driving the design of PC-DMIS for Windows were flexibility and user friendliness. To meet these goals, PC-DMIS provides a flexible environment allowing for real-time error correction of part programs, as opposed to the long, tedious debugging process of other geometric software packages. It is dimension oriented to reduce the need to analyze and interpret the results of the CMM measurements. The techniques used for the part programming on a CMM are straightforward and, with practice, systematic.

New Features & Enhancements

Download the list of new features & enhancements in .doc format. New Features:
  • Saving Hyper-Reports in an External File. Hyper-Reports can now be saved externally and automatically in *.pdf format. The Adobe Systems Acrobat Reader is free program which will have to installed on the user's computer to view these files.
  • Summary Mode Window (Block Execution). This is a new tree view window of the part program has been created in the in the Edit Window.
  • Direct CAD Interfaces. Available now are direct import capabilities for use with Catia, Unigraphics, Pro/ENGINEER, I-DEAS, and ACIS. (These were previously available in the limited test release of Version 3.1.)
  • 3D Grid Lines in Graphics Window. An overlay of the CAD model can be created which is representative of body axis lines for better representation of measured features.
  • Mode Toolbars. Quick access toolbars were added for dimensions, constructions, auto features, and measured features. Display of these toolbars is optional.
  • Automatic Label Positioning (Setup Option). Labels for features can now automatically be spaced around the borders of the graphics viewing area rather than only attached to the feature where initially created.
  • Text Box Mode - When utilized, a right mouse click on a feature in the graphics window will display a menu of various options for reporting and editing.
  • Report Mode Window Graphic Tables - A new method of reporting can be utilized to generate more organized reports.
  • 321, Iterative, and Probe Calibration Wizards - These wizards will quickly and easily assist the programmer in some of the more complex evolutions of PC-DMIS. It is also possibly for users to create their own wizards.
  • Sheet Metal Guess Mode - In previous versions of PC-DMIS the operator could measure the part and create features with the nominal values based on the closed same type element in the CAD model. This same capability is now available with auto-features (sheetmetal).
  • Preview Window for Manual Machines - Though possible to be used also with DCC machines, the primary benefit will be for operators of manual machines who are not necessarily at the computer workstation when measuring features and desire to see a preview of the results before inclusion of a feature in a program.
  • Support of CV-100 Video Probe - This new video probe developed by Brown & Sharpe and CMT can now truly measure and calibrate in 3 dimension rotations and is fully functional with a toolchanger.
  • Support for CW43 & CW43Light 3 Axis Wrists - A new design for Brown & Sharpe infinitely indexable wrists includes a 3rd rotation axis for optimiztion of measurement when using the CV-100 video probe.
  • Brown & Sharpe Remote Panel Management - For large gantry and horizontal machines which may make more convenient to have a remote operating station, the Brown & Sharpe remote panel is fully supported.
  • Prompt Mode for Edit Window Output - When activated, at the end of execution, the operator can be prompted for naming and saving of report files.
  • Attach External Program - Allows for the use of results from another program or direct execution of a second part program.
  • Coaxiality - The coaxiality dimesion has been added. (Previously available in version 3.1 test release.)
Enhancements:
  • New Text Box Design. The new design will allow for better organized graphical reports and optimization of the graphics display area for graphical analysis.
  • Use Datums Mode in True Position. Operators can now quickly specify primary, secondary, and tertiary datums with proper material condition modifiers without the need to construct additional alignments.
  • Dynamic 3D Rotation Modes - Based on using a combination of holding down the Ctrl key and the right mouse button, it is possible to obtain a better more dynamic rotation of the CAD model while maitaining model scale.
  • DMIS 4.0 Support - Import and export of DMIS version 4.0 programs is completely supported.
  • Setup Option in Probe Utilities - Provides easy access for setting clearance moves during qualification, management of qualification results, tolerance values for newly generated result warnings, and assists with probe file management.
  • Multiple Tool Changer Support - In many CMM installations, it has been desirable to use more than one tool changer or even more than one type of tool changer. These applications are fully supported. . (Previously available in version 3.1 test release.)
  • Enhanced I/O Management for DEA Firmware Controllers - The necessity of accessing the pcdlrn.ini file for making changes to operation of controller options has been significantly reduced for these controllers.

Version 3.204 Enhancements and Fixes

Due to an occasional problem with memory corruption in 3.203 release, Wilcox Associates, Inc. has released version 3.204 to Brown and Sharpe now that the problem has been identified and fixed.

16 September 2000
Download this list of new enhancements and bug fixes in .doc format.

Enahancements:
  • Draw analisys arrows as solid arrows. The analisys arrows on the graphics and analisys view display areas now can be drawn as solid arrows. the [OpenGLSettings] section in the pcdlrn.ini file contains an entry DrawArrowsAsSolid=1. If you change this to 0, then the old arrow style will be used. There is also an entry DrawArrowRadiusInMM=0.1. This is the max radius for the arrow shaft in millimeters.
  • Draw points as solid looking spheres. Points in PC-DMIS are now displayed as solid looking spheres. This can be controlled by the DrawPointsAsSpheres=1 setting in the [OpenGLSettings] section of the pcdlrn.ini file. If you change the default 1 to a 0, then PC-DMIS will use the old style drawing for points. You can also modify the DrawPointsRadiusInMM=1.0 entry to change the size of the spheres displayed. The default radius is 1 millimeter.
  • XYZ axis block is now drawn as a solid looking arrows.
