Generic Features Example

Generic features give the ability to construct any feature type from whatever input values you would like to use. The features are then drawn on the screen in the location and size as defined in the feature command constructer. These features can then be used as any other measured feature.

Consider this example:

Constructing a Round Slot from the measured data of two circles

Step 1: Measure two circles at the ends of the slot (they can be either "AUTO" or "MEASURED" circles).

Step 2: Assign variables to the averages of their X,Y,Z and D values.

Step 3: Calculate the Length of the slot.

Step 4: Place the variables in the "GENERIC/ROUND_SLOT" command as shown. You are dealing with measured data, so each of the values should go on the "MEAS/" lines or in the measured position of the line (which is always the second position). If you have nominal values they can also be placed on the "NOM/" line.

Notes:

  1. There are two sets of "NOM/IJK" and "MEAS/IJK". The first set is surface normal for the slot and second is for the axis of the slot

  2. If you create the slot from the dialog you need to specify that you are using "Diameter" and not "Radius".
