Chapter 3 File Options

Step 5, Option 1 under the topic, "Importing DMIS Files" should read: 1.) The first option is to use the dialog box to navigate through the available directories until you find the probe file to be used for translation. Click the OK button to continue. PC-DMIS will add any tips (sensors) referenced in the DMIS programs that are not already in the probe file. Option 3 under this same topic should read: 3.) The third option is to click Skip. This causes the SNSDEF and SNSLCT statements in the DMIS program to be ignored during translation. - - - - - The topic "Installing and Using Catia Direct CAD Interface" should be updated to read as follows: To import a Catia file that functions in PC-DMIS, follow these steps: 1. Install Catia V4.2.0 on a UNIX workstation (IBM or SGI). 2. Create a directory called "Pcdmis" under the Catia Admin or User directory for installing PC-DMIS files. Example: /home/catadm/pcdmis 3. Place the PC-DMIS/CATIA interface (a file named "Pcdcat") in the Pcdmis directory of your UNIX workstation. * If you don't have the PC-DMIS/CATIA interface (Pcdcat), downloaded either Pcdcat.ibm or Pcdcat.sgi (depending on whether your UNIX workstation is IBM or SGI) from ftp://ftp.wilcoxassoc.com/temp. * Once the file is in the Pcdmis directory on your UNIX workstation, rename the file to simply "Pcdcat" (without the .sgi or .ibm file name extension). 4. Place the data text file "Pcdmis.dat" into the Pcdmis directory on your UNIX workstation. You can download this file from ftp://ftp.wilcoxassoc.com/temp. 5. Edit Pcdmis.dat so that it contains the necessary port and IP address information (See "Example of Pcdmis.dat file on Unix Workstation"). 6. Using a standard text editor, modify the CATIA declaration file "catia.dcls" to define the model directory and/or alias (See "Example of catia.dcls file on UNIX Workstation"). 7. Install PC-DMIS V3.1 or higher on an Intel based PC. 8. Network the PC and UNIX workstation together. 9. Place the data text file "Catia.dat" on the PC in the directory to which you installed PC-DMIS. You can download Catia.dat from ftp://ftp.wilcoxassoc.com/temp. 10. Edit Catia.dat so that file contains the default path on the UNIX workstation where the CATIA model files are stored. (See "Example of Catia.dat file in PC-DMIS Directory"). 11. Edit the Pcdlrn.ini file on the PC, adding the CatiaPort and CatiaAddress entries. (See "Example of Pcdlrn.ini with Catia Information"). 12. Run Pcdcat on the UNIX workstation. 13. Run PC-DMIS Version 3.1 or higher. 14. Create a new PC-DMIS part program (select File | New). 15. Attach a Catia file (select File | Import). 16. Select CATIA Files from the List Files of Type list. 17. Select a Catia data file (with .dat extension). The Catia data file contains default options for the Catia Get Model dialog box. 18. Click the OK button. The Catia Get Model dialog box opens. 19. Type in the appropriate directory information if needed. 20. Click the Get Models button. A list of the Catia models appears. 21. Select the Catia model name or names from the list. 22. Click the OK button. You can do this from Window's Control Panel by selecting the Environment tab from the System Configuration dialog box (accessed from Control Panel). - - - - - Detailed information on using the "IGES Setup" dialog box to alter the CAD display for imported and exported images has been added to this site: http://www.wilcoxassoc.com/files.htm#instructional_files (see the IGES Setup link). Information from that document will appear in the v35 manual. - - - - - ADDED JANUARY 9, 2003 In the "Mirror" topic, the following "Important" note should be added: "Important: PC-DMIS also attempts to mirror your probe's AB tip angles. If your probe does not have the exact mirrored tip angles already defined and calibrated, PC-DMIS may choose the closest calibrated tip angles. It chooses closely calibrated tip angles if the calibrated tip angles exist, and are within the wrist angle amount specified in the Wrist Warning Delta box on the Part/CMM tab of the SetUp Options dialog box (the "Using the Road Map" appendix provides instruction on accessing all dialog boxes and menu options). If no closely calibrated AB tip angles exist, then PC-DMIS will create perfectly mirrored yet uncalibrated AB tip angles."

Chapter 4 Utilities

Under the topic "Text Box Mode" the cross reference inside the note at the end of the topic contains an error. It says "See Error! Reference source not found. for additional information." Instead, it should read: "See 'Translation Mode' for additional information. ----- Add the following to the "Text Box Mode" section: "For a quick way to create a DIMINFO or a POINTINFO box, 1. Select the Text Box Mode icon. 2. Double-click on a feature or feature ID label. PC-DMIS automatically creates an info box based on current Edit Dimension Info or Edit Point Info dialog box settings. Example: Suppose you created a DIMINFO box for a feature. Double-clicking on subsequent feature labels will create additional DIMINFO boxes for those features using the same settings selected the last time the Edit Dimension Info dialog box was used." ----- The procedure located in the "Equate Alignment" topic should be updated to read as follows: "For example, to measure a dimension that references features on two sides of the part that are not accessible from a single part orientation: 1. Measure the alignment features on the first side of the part. 2. Create the original alignment. 3. Measure all required features that can be reached from the first orientation of the part. 4. Move the part to its new position. 5. Measure the new alignment features. The origin must be the same and the axis must be in the same direction as the axis of the alignment you are equating to. It is easiest to understand this if you imagine that the original origin and axes' arrows were glued onto the part before moving it. The new alignment places the origin and axes' arrows in the same position with respect to the part. 6. In the Equate Alignment list, select the new alignment. 7. In the With Alignment list, select the old alignment. 8. Click the OK button." ----- In the "Defining a Custom Module" topic (subtopic of the "Fixture: New Module" topic), the procedure shouldn't include step 2. It should be re-written to read: In order to completely define a module follow the steps outlined below: 1. In the Name box, give the module a name. 2. In the Module Offsets area, type the offsets from the center of the column sphere to the center of the connection sphere (if the end effector is a sphere) or to the contact point of the end effector (if the end effector is not a sphere). 3. In the Artifact Description area, select the type of end effector. In the case of a sphere, enter the sphere diameter in the Diameter box. ----- The topic "Active Tip List" contains a subtopic "Calibration Order" the procedure described to set the calibration order should be re-written as follows: "To set the calibration order: 1. Select the 'User Defined' option in the 'Measure Probe' dialog box (See the 'Measure' topic). 2. Hold down the CTRL key. 3. With your left mouse button, select the tips from the Active Tip List for calibration. A number representing the index of the tip measurement order appears next to each Tip ID as it is selected." ----- The topic "Read Line" contains three examples. The second example is incorrect. The example should changed from... The command line: File/ReadLine,F1, "Location:"+{CIR1.X}+ ","+{CIR1.Y}+ ","+{CIR1.Z}+ ","+{CIR1.I}+ ","+{CIR1.J}+ ","+{CIR1.K} would read in comma delimited text after the string "Location:" and store the values in the X, Y, Z, and I, J, K values of CIR1. ... and should be rewritten as follows: The command lines: File/ReadLine,F1, "Location:"+{VARX}+ ","+{VARY}+ ","+{VARZ}+ ","+{VARI}+ ","+{VARJ}+ ","+{VARK} ASSIGN/CIR1.XYZ = MPOINT(VARX, VARY, VARZ) ASSIGN/CIR1.IJK = MPOINT(VARI, VARJ, VARK) would read in comma delimited text after the string "Location:" and store the values in the X, Y, Z, and I, J, K values of CIR1. - - - - - The "Active Arms Toolbar" topic's first line of text reads: "The 'Active Arms' toolbar contains two toggle buttons depicting probes will be available." It should be changed to read: "The 'Active Arms' toolbar contains two toggle buttons depicting the master and slave modes. " - - - - - The text for the "Active CMM Interface List" topic should be rewritten to read "The Active CMM Interface list simply displays the interface you initially selected for the current part program. You cannot use this list to switch between off-line and on-line modes." - - - - - Under the "Rotate 3D" topic, the sub-topic "Rotate 3D using Rotate Dialog Box" contains a procedure that had references to an Apply button, that doesn't exist on the 'Rotate' dialog box. The procedure should be changed to read: "To rotate the drawing using the dialog box: 1. Select the view to be altered (numbered as 1-4 option buttons). 2. Determine the amount of rotation by selecting the 'Degree Increment' (1, 5, 10, or 45) option. 3. Click on the desired axis button to rotate the drawing. 4. Select the 'Close' button. PC-DMIS displays the changes to the CAD image in the Graphics Display window. Clicking the Reset button will change the drawing in the dialog box back to the previous view." - - - - - The "Rotate 2D by Dragging" topic contains a paragraph that reads "When the mouse button is released, PC-DMIS will re-draw the rotated image to reflect the amount the mouse was dragged around the imaginary center point." This is incorrect. PC-DMIS redraws the image dynamically as the mouse is being moved. The procedure and the ending paragraph should be re-written as: "To rotate by dragging: 1. Position the mouse pointer in the Graphics Display window (in any area other than at the center). 2. Hold down the right mouse button. 3. Move the pointer clockwise about the imaginary center of the display window. PC-DMIS redraws the image dynamically as you move the mouse. 4. Release the mouse button. PC-DMIS keeps your current rotation." - - - - - The "Alignment Start" topic doesn't contain documentation describing the LIST=YES/NO portion of the ALIGNMENT/START command. It should be rewritten as follows: ==Start Alignment Command== ALIGN_ID=ALIGNMENT/START,RECALL:ID, LIST=YES/NO Changeable fields: "Align_ID" This is the ID the alignment will be stored as. The ID is assigned by the operator. A default name will be assigned if an ID is not specified. Example: A1. "ID" ID is a previous internal alignment that will be recalled to start a new alignment. "LIST" Setting this equal to YES or NO lets you determine whether or not PC-DMIS should display the alignment ID in the Alignments list on the Settings toolbar for later insertion in the part program. This is useful if you have a lot of temporary alignments and you don't want them all listed in the Alignments list on the Settings toolbar (see the "Alignments List" topic). - - - - - Under the "Else / End Else" topic the line "The Edit window command line for a WHILE / END WHILE statement reads:" should be rewritten as follows: "The Edit window command line for a ELSE / END ELSE statement reads:" - - - - - The note in the "Erase Hit" topic mentions the PRINT_STORE_MOVE entry in the PCDLRN.INI file. This entry is obsolete. You should use the PRINTBUTTON entry in its stead. - - - - -

Chapter 5 Construction Options

Under the topic "Constructing a Drop Point" the following note should be added: "Note: This is one construction method in which feature types must be selected in the correct order." - - - - - Step 2 of "Changing the Direction of a Cylinder" uses the word "either" with only one option: "Select either the Reverse option." This should be rewritten to read "Select the Reverse option". - - - - - Under the topic "Constructing a Pierce Point" the note should be rewritten to read: "Note: This is one construction method in which feature types must be selected in the correct order. " - - - - - In the topic "Constructing a Cast Cylinder" steps one and two should be rewritten as follows: 1) Select Construct | Cylinder from the menu bar. The Construct Cylinder Mode dialog box will appear. 2) Select the Cast option. - - - - - The topic "Constructing a Cast Cone" uses the word "either" with only one option: "2. Select either the Cast option". This should be rewritten as "2. Select the Cast option". - - - - - The topic "Constructing a Point" uses the word "either" with only one option: "5. Click either the Create button". This should be rewritten as "5. Click the Create button". - - - - - In the topic titled "Sphere Construction" there is a statement that reads, "You can switch between the different types of spheres by placing the cursor on TOG3 and clicking the left mouse button." This is incorrect. It should read "You can switch between the different types of spheres by placing the cursor on TOG3 and pressing F7 or F8." The sentence, "The keyboard can also be used to switch toggle fields" should also be deleted. - - - - - The first sentence of the "Constructing a Projected Sphere" topic reads: "A sphere can be constructed from any feature into the current working plane." This should be changed to read "A sphere can be constructed by projecting any feature into the current working plane." - - - - - The opening paragraph of "Constructing a Perpendicular Line" should be rewritten as "A line can be constructed perpendicular to the first input feature and passing through the centroid of the second input feature." - - - - - The topic "General Command Format" under the text for "TOG2" contains a list of possible constructed features. These are "CIRCLE / CONE / CYLINDER / LINE / PLANE / POINT / SPHERE / CURVE / SURFACE / SET / ELLIPSE". This should be rewritten as "CIRCLE / CONE / CYLINDER / LINE / PLANE / POINT / SPHERE / CURVE / SURFACE / SET". The ellipse construction type shouldn't be included. - - - - - The following should be added to the "Constructing an Intersect Point" topic: "If you want to 'intersect' or pierce a circle with a line, see "Constructing a Pierce Point". - - - - - The "Cylinder Construction" topic describes the Edit window syntax for a sample cylinder construction. The diam and length should be switched. Thus, it should be changed to read as follows: "The Edit window command line for a sample Cylinder Construction would read: feature_name=FEAT/CYLINDER,TOG1,TOG4,TOG5 THEO/x_cord,y_cord,z_cord,i_vec,j_vec,k_vec,diam,length ACTL/x_cord,y_cord,z_cord,i_vec,j_vec,k_vec,diam,length CONSTR/TOG2,TOG3,......" - - - - - Under the "Tolernace " topic under the "Constructing a Gaussian Filter Set" topic, the following text should be added for clarification: "The tolerance you type can be zero or any positive value. If you type a zero, the tolerance becomes the default of 3.

Chapter 6 Dimension Options

Under the topic "Sheet Metal Axes", the default dimension info "RT, S, RS" for a sheet metal edge point should be replaced to read: "X,Y,Z, and T" - - - - - Step 11 of the procedure described in "To Dimension a Feature Using the TRUE POSITION Option:" should be deleted. - - - - - [ADDED 22 MARCH 2002] Under the topic "Profile" there's a procedure called "To Dimension a Feature Using the PROFILE Option:" the numbered steps of this procedure have been updated with some extra information. It now should read as follows: 1. Create a Best-Fit alignment. Generally, creating a best-fit alignment improves the numbers of a profile dimension. Also, best-fit alignments are necessary if you select the Form Only option later. 2. Access the "Profile" dialog box. 3. Select the feature(s) to dimension from the "Feature List" box. If a datum feature is selected, it must be a plane. 4. Type the plus tolerance value in the "Plus" box. 5. Type the minus tolerance value in the "Minus" box. 6. Select either "Inch" or "MM" in the "Units" area. 7. Select where to output the dimension information. Select either the "Statistics", "Report", "Both", or "None" option. 8. Select the optional "Display" check box if you want to view dimension information in the Graphics Display window. 9. Select either "Form Only" or "Form and Location" in the "Control Options" area of the dialog box. 10. Select the desired analysis options by marking the "Textual" check box or the "Graphical" check box. If the "Graphical" check box was marked, type the multiplier value in the "Multiplier" box. 11. If desired, select the "Display" check box in the "Dimension Info" area and click "Edit" to select the "Dimension Info Format" you would like displayed in the Graphics Display window. · If you've selected the "Form and Location" option earlier, be sure to select the "MaxMin" check box from the "Dimension Info Format" area of the "Edit Dimension Info" dialog box. · If you've selected the "Form Only" option earlier, be sure to select the "Measured" check box from the "Dimension Info Format" area of the "Edit Dimension Info" dialog box. 12. Click the "Create" button. - - - - -

Chapter 8 Scanning Options

Under number 2 of the topic "Body Axis" the text: "2.) On this type of scan you need to type the InitVec and the DirVec values in the Part Coordinate System. This is required to work together with the Body Axis location" should be changed to read : "2.) On this type of scan you need to type the InitVec and the DirVec values in the Part Coordinate System. This is required so that the probe can traverse the Body Axis location indicated." ----- The topic "Execute Mode" describes various modes used when executing a learned scan. The text under "Normal Mode" should be rewritten as follows: "When Normal is selected, PC-DMIS will execute the scan in it's 'normal' manner; it will trigger a hit when the probe touches the part." ----- Under the "Basic Scan" topic, the "Boundary Tab" sub-topic's initial sentence has an error. It currently says: "Some of the Basic Scans like Circle, Cylinder, Axis, and Null do not need a Boundary condition since they are executed by the controller. " The word 'Null' scan should be replaced with 'Center'. Null is not a scan type. ----- Under the "Cylinder" topic, the "Pitch:" topic has an example that contains some errors. It says: "Example: If the cylinder has a CutVec of 0,0,1, a Pitch value of 1.0 and a positive angle of 720 , the scan would execute two revolutions and would move up the axis of the cylinder one unit from the start point. If, for the same cylinder, a negative pitch is entered, the scan would execute down the axis of the cylinder one unit." It should be rewritten to read: "Example: If the cylinder has a CutVec of 0,0,1, a Pitch value of 1.0 and a positive angle of 720 , the scan would execute two revolutions and would move up the axis of the cylinder two units from the start point. If, for the same cylinder, a negative pitch is entered, the scan would execute down the axis of the cylinder two units."

Chapter 9 System Options

The topic "Execution FindNoms" should be named "Execution FindNoms Tolerance" instead. ----- The topic "Edit Dimension Colors" for the "Options" menu in the "Analysis Window" has incorrect documentation. It should be rewritten as follows: "This dialog allows you to set the number of tolerance zones and their respective colors. To do this: 1. Make sure the dialog box is open. 2. Type the number of tolerance zones desired. 3. Select a tolerance zone from the Dimension Colors drop-down list of zones. 4. Press the Edit Color button to change the color of the tolerance zone that is currently selected. You can also set the colors like this: 1. Select a start color and an end color with the left mouse button directly on the dialog box's color wheel. 2. Click the Apply Colors button. These two colors will be set as the colors for the first and last tolerance zones. The remaining tolerance zones will have colors spaced evenly between the start and end colors. The direction of the spacing depends upon the option selected: · The Clockwise option will set the end color to have the same brightness as the start color, and will space the colors in a clockwise direction. · The Counter Clockwise option also will set the end color to have the same brightness as the start color, but will space the colors in the counter clockwise direction. · The Straight Line option will space the colors from the start color to the end color, regardless of the brightness, in a straight line direction. These changes can override the previous default tolerance colors simply by pressing the Default button. Selecting the Recall button will return the colors to the original default setting." ----- In the "Pierce CAD on 3D Rotate" topic, there's a spelling error in the second bullet in the bulleted list. The word "peirce" should be spelled "pierce". ----- In the "ID Setup" tab documentation for the "Show All ID" check box wasn't included. It's is included here as follows: "If the Show All ID check box is selected, PC-DMIS will display that feature's ID label in the Graphics Display window for all newly created features. If this is deselected, the feature still gets created in the Edit window, but the ID label doesn't show up in the Graphics Display window." ----- The "AutoTrigger" topic should have the following note added to it: "Important: The AUTOTRIGGER command only works with Measured Points and Auto Vector Points." ----- ADDED SEPTEMBER 02, 2002 In the English printed and foreign language documenation, the following sub-topics on .stp files were added to the "Compensating for Temperature" ==Using STP Files== Each CMM uses machine-specific parameters for temperature compensation for each axis, such as thermal coefficients and sensor assignments. these parameters, along with embedded code that tells PC-DMIS if the file is a structural or linear compensation file, are stored inside special STP files (named for the .stp extension) created by Brown and Sharpe and DEA. PC-DMIS requires these STP files to compensate for temperature. Prior to compensating for temperature, ensure that these STP files reside in the appropriate locations on your harddrive: * The DEA Linear Thermal Compensation method expects to find the Serv1.stp file in the C:\Program Files\Thermal_OCX directory. * The DEA Structural Thermal Compensation method expects to find the Serv1.stp file in the C:\Thermal_OCX directory. Important Note for Dual Arm Systems: In addition to having the STP file (Serv1.stp) in the appropriate directory on the slave arm's computer, you must also ensure that another STP file for the slave arm (named Serv1s.stp) resides in the corresponding directory on the master arm's computer. To do this, copy Serv1.stp from the slave arm's computer, rename it to Serv1s.stp and place it on the master arm's computer. ==Linear and Structural Temperature Compensation== Linear compensation = (Thermal Coefficient of Expansion) X (Displacement Change in Temperature of Each Axis and the Part). If multiple temperature sensors exist on an axis, PC-DMIS averages the readouts to find the temperature change. Structural compensation recognizes that a CMM's various material components may have different temperatures (a single axis of the machine, for example, may have several different temperatures, which cause bending, bowing or skewing of the machine in some way). Structural compensation, then, applies the temperature corrections for specific areas of the CMM. When you select the "Temperature Compensation" menu item, the Structural Thermal_OCX gets called and PC-DMIS calculates a new temporary volumetric compensation map. - - - -

Chapter 11 Editing a Part Program

Under the topic "String Functions", the procedure that follows the phrase "To obtain these values:" should be changed to read as follows: To obtain these values: 1. Place PC-DMIS in Command Mode. Right-click anywhere in the Edit window. A shortcut menu appears. 2. From the shortcut menu, select Change Pop-up Display and then Data Type Information. 3. Position the mouse over a data field in the Edit window. The type description, type number and the type index for that data item are displayed. ----- The "Report Mode" topic should be updated to read: The Report Mode toolbar icon places the Edit window in Report mode. This mode allows you to view the information that will be displayed in a report. See Report for more information. If you mark and execute a portion of your part program, and click this icon, the report will only display the marked and executed items. Clicking this icon once more will display a report of all the contents in the Edit window. ----- A sentence in the "YES / NO" topic currently reads: "The message box will displayed any previously entered text and YES / NO buttons.". This should instead read as follows: "The message box will display any previously entered text and YES / NO buttons. " ----- The topic "Measurements" has a subtopic named "Features" which in turn has the following subtopics: "Circle", "Cone", "Cylinder", "Line", "Plane", "Point", and "Sphere". Each of these feature-type subtopics has an error on the first line of the description of the Edit window format. Instead of "dimension_name=" it should read "feature_name=". ----- Under "Operators and Functions" topic, a subtopic "Miscellaneous Functions" has been updated with the following documentation: "ISIOCHANNELSET: This expression takes two parameters. The first parameter indicates which I/O channel will be checked (the range of numbers that is available is based on the machine being used). The second parameter determines whether the software will query the master or slave machine. If the second parameter is set to 1 (one) it will query the slave controller. If the second parameter is not present (or is set to zero), then the IO Channel will query the master controller. The master controller is your only option if you are not in master / slave mode. " The Example table has also been updated with this addition: "ASSIGN/V4 = ISIOCHANNELSET(3, 0) V4 will equal 1 (evaluate to true) when the channel is set, otherwise it will equal 0 (evaluate to false)." This addition will appear in the version 3.5 manual. - - - - - The "Replace" topic should contain the following note after the initial paragraph.: "Note: Replacing text in limited to only one field. Example: you cannot replace all instances of PERM = 0 with PERM = 3 because PERM = 3 is actually two separate fields: "PERM =" and "3". This addition will appear in the version 3.5 manual. - - - - - The "Print Options" topic for the Edit window, has a typo under "Using the Auto Option". Appendix E Using a Wrist Device

Because of some dialog box title changes and button name changes, the "Cal Wrist Option" topic and it's subtopics should be replaced with the following "Calibrate Unit Option" topic and subtopics: == Calibrate Unit Option == When you have an indexable wrist on the CMM, PC-DMIS will automatically add a new "Calibrate the Unit" menu option to the "Measure" button of the "Measure Probe" dialog box. = Measure Probe dialog box = This option allows you to calibrate the wrist. This procedure allows you to measure several angles on a sphere to determine the internal distances within the wrist itself. Once this information is calculated, PC-DMIS will use it to accurately predict the tip position at any A, B angle pair. This allows you to use any A, B angle in your part program without calibrating each individual position. = Collision Tolerances dialog box = Once you select the "Calibrate the Unit" option PC-DMIS will display the "Wrist Calibration" dialog box. In order to calibrate the wrist, you need to measure at least three A angle positions (at a constant B) and at least three B angle positions (at a constant A) for a total of six sphere measurements. The "Wrist Calibration" dialog box gives you the ability to specify the angles for calibrating both the A and the B axes. The first four options are for calibrating the A joint. The first line is to specify the B position that all A measurements are to be made at. The second through fourth lines are to specify the starting, ending and increment A values. Note: Each time the CMM is homed, you must perform a wrist calibration with at least three positions in A and three positions in B. For example if you were to put in the following values: Starting A angle: -180 Ending A angle: 90 A angle increment: 90 PC-DMIS will calibrate the A axis with the A-180B0, A-90B0, A0B0, A90B0. Again, a minimum of three positions is required to calibrate each axis, but if you have more, PC-DMIS will use them to average the results and to get a slightly more accurate calibration. The next four lines are for calibrating the B axis. The first line is to specify the A position that all B measurements are to be made at. The second through fourth lines are to specify the starting, ending and increment B values. For example if you were to put in the following values: Starting B angle: -180 Ending Bangle: 90 B angle increment: 90 This would calibrate the B axis with the A0B-180, A0B-90, A0B0, A0B90. Again, a minimum of three positions is required to calibrate each axis, but if you have more, PC-DMIS will use them to average the results and get a slightly more accurate calibration. =Calculate Error Map= The "Wrist Calibration" dialog box contains a "Calculate Error Map" check box to calculate the error map. Use this check box when you are calibrating the wrist using a small increment angle on the A and B axis (for example, 20 degrees). If you check this box, PC-DMIS will create an error comp file (abcomp.dat) that it will use to correct for angular errors in the wrist. This will slightly increase the accuracy of the wrist. If you choose to calculate error map, the results will be stored to your hard disk so that any time you use the wrist, it will take advantage of the improved angular accuracy. Calculating the error map should only be done periodically (once a week or less). When you check the "Calculate Error Map" option, PC-DMIS will also do a valid wrist and tip calibration for the currently loaded tip. Once you have entered the desired values, press OK. This will bring up the standard "Measure Probe" dialog box. This dialog allows you to set the desired measurement values for the sphere measurement. You can set the number of hits, probe prehit and retract, and various speeds that will be used in the measurement process. This is identical to the documentation for Utilities | Probe | Measure in the "Utilities" chapter. Note: Wrist calibration should be done each time the mounting of the wrist changes. This includes when the wrist is re-homed. - - - - -
