This page is dedicated to finding and correcting errors found in the PC-DMIS Version 3.1 Reference Manual as well as documenting portions of the application that were developed after the manual was completed . Chapter 1 Introduction

Chapter 2 User Interface

The topic title: "Box Select for Sheet Metal Feature Id's" should be changed to read "Overview of Box Selecting Sheet Metal Features IDs"

Chapter 3 File Options

The first three paragraphs of the "Import" topic in the "File Options" section should be changed to exclude TUTOR file types. It should now read: "The FILE | IMPORT option lets you import data from an input data file into the current part program. The input data files that can be used can be any of these file types: · CAD (IGES, DXF, STEP, VDAFS, DES or XYZIJK) · DMIS · AVAIL · DIMS PC-DMIS keeps track of the CAD data as a separate file. This file will have the same OS file name as the part program, but will have the ".CAD" extension. All operations, such as RENAME, DELETE, and COPY are also done on the associated CAD file (if one exists). "

Chapter 4 Utilities

The topic "Rotate Offset Angle" should be changed to read "Rotate by an Offset Angle". The text following this topic should be changed to read: The Offset Angle box allows you to rotate about a particular axis by an offset angle. To rotate by an offset angle: 1. Highlight the previous value in the Offset Angle box. 2. Type the desired angle. 3. Press the TAB key 4. Click the Rotate button. The new value will replace the old rotation offset." The toolbar in the topic, "Basic Script Editor Toolbar", should be changed to only contain the following icons: New Open Save Print Print Preview Find Cut Copy Paste Undo Start ----- The procedure located in the "Equate Alignment" topic should be updated to read as follows: "For example, to measure a dimension that references features on two sides of the part that are not accessible from a single part orientation: 1. Measure the alignment features on the first side of the part. 2. Create the original alignment. 3. Measure all required features that can be reached from the first orientation of the part. 4. Move the part to its new position. 5. Measure the new alignment features. The origin must be the same and the axis must be in the same direction as the axis of the alignment you are equating to. It is easiest to understand this if you imagine that the original origin and axes' arrows were glued onto the part before moving it. The new alignment places the origin and axes' arrows in the same position with respect to the part. 6. In the Equate Alignment list, select the new alignment. 7. In the With Alignment list, select the old alignment. 8. Click the OK button."

Chapter 5 Construction Options

Step 3 of "Constructing a Cast Point" should read: "2. Select the Cast option from the list of options." Under the topic "In / Out Circle" the sentence: "If you select Out, PC-DMIS constructs the cone as an external circle or pin" should read as follows: "If you select Out, PC-DMIS constructs the circle as an external circle or pin"

Chapter 6 Dimension Options

"TS Axis" under the "Sheet Metal Axes" topic should read: "RS axis" instead. ---- Under the topic "Sheet Metal Axes", the default dimension info "RT, S, RS" for a sheet metal edge point should be replaced to read: "X,Y,Z, and T"

Chapter 7 Auto Utility

The first paragraph of the topic "Height for a Cylinder" has been updated to read as follows: "When Type = HOLE, the Height box defines the nominal length of the cylinder. If you enter a Height value but do not define a depth, PC-DMIS equally divides the Height value by the number of rows indicated in the # Rows box. The probe then works its way down the cylinder in increments until it reaches the indicated height value." The example under "Pitch for a Sheet Metal Circle" should read as follows: "for Example: If measuring a circle with four hits equally spaced around the circle, the first hit will be at the starting angle at the input depth. The second hit will be at a 90 degree rotation to the first and a depth of (depth - ((hitnum-1)/tothits * pitch). The third hit would be 180 degree rotation from the first hit with a depth of (depth - ((hitnum-1)/tothits * pitch). The remaining hits follow this same pattern." The example under the topic "Pitch for a Cylinder" should be updated to read: Example: If measuring a cylinder with two levels of four hits equally spaced around the cylinder, the first hit in each level will be at the starting angle at the input depth. The second hit will be at a 90 degree rotation to the first and a depth of (depth - ((hitnum-1)/tothits * pitch). The third hit would be 180 degree rotation from the first hit with a depth of (depth - ((hitnum-1)/tothits * pitch). The remaining hits follow this same pattern. The topic "Using Keyed in Data for a Sheet Metal Circle" should be updated to read "This method allows you to key in the desired X, Y, Z, I, J, K values for the circle. See "Mode" for additional information on nominals." The topic "Using Keyed in Data for a Square Slot" should read "This method allows you to key in the desired X, Y, Z, I, J, K values for the square slot. See "Mode" for additional information on nominals." The topic "Using Keyed in Data for a Round Slot"This method allows you to key in the desired X, Y, Z, I, J, K values for the round slot. See "Mode" for additional information on nominals." Under the topic "Defining the Exclusion Zone" the topic "Step 1 Turn on Exclusive Mode" should be changed to "Step 1 Turn on Exclusive Move". The first sentence following should read: "Select the Turn Exclusive Move On check box." Under the topic "Find Noms" step 1 should be updated to read: "Verify that PC-DMIS is set to Curve mode or Surface mode (available from the PC-DMIS Modes toolbar), as is appropriate for the particular part program."

Chapter 8 Scanning Options

Under the topic "Types of Interrupt Points" the text "Shere of Cylinder" should read "Sphere or Cylinder". Under number 2 of the topic "Body Axis" the text: "2.) On this type of scan you need to type the InitVec and the DirVec values in the Part Coordinate System. This is required to work together with the Body Axis location" should be changed to read : "2.) On this type of scan you need to type the InitVec and the DirVec values in the Part Coordinate System. This is required so that the probe can traverse the Body Axis location indicated."

Chapter 9 System Options

Under the "Probing Mode" topic, the term "Soft Probing" has this definition: "Soft Probing (or SFT) is Leitz terminology for a frequently used probing mode used to measure soft materials." Under the "View Window" topic, the paragraph that reads" PC-DMIS initially uses the current workplane for all dimensions can cut vector for profile dimensions or the current workplane for other dimensions in order to position the graphical analysis in the window." should be updated to read: "In order to determine the initial view of the graphical analysis in the Analysis Window, PC-DMIS uses either the scan cut vector for profile dimensions of scans or the current workplane for other dimensions. This view can be altered later." The "Tool Slot" topic should be changed to read "Probe in Slot #". The text for this topic should be updated to read: "This option indicates the slot number on the rack of the tool currently being used. This option is only available if a tool rack has been setup. If you aren't using a tool rack or if your current probe isn't in a tool rack then PC-DMIS displays text informing you that your current probe isn't in the tool changer. See 'Slots' under the 'Tool Changer Setup' topic for information on adding probes to slots on a tool rack."

Chapter 10 Graphic Options

The term "prints" should be changed to "displays" for these topics: "Location Axes" with: X, Y, Z, D, R, A, L, H, V, T, RT, S, and RS. "True Position Axes" with: X, Y, Z, PA, PR, DF, TP, D1, D2 The description for FILTER_NUM under the "POINTINFO Command" topic should read: "A number field available when the filter option is INTERVAL, WORST, or DEVIATION."

Chapter 11 Editing a Part Program

Under the "Command" topic the text for the "Show Tips" option should read: "This option displays the tip file names used to inspect the part. " The topic "Show Screen Captures" has been moved to follow the "Show Header / Footer" option under the "Report" topic and the text for this topic should read: "This option displays any graphics related to DISPLAY/METAFILE and ANALYSISVIEW commands in the report." ----- A sentence in the "YES / NO" topic currently reads: "The message box will displayed any previously entered text and YES / NO buttons.". This should instead read as follows: "The message box will display any previously entered text and YES / NO buttons. "

Appendix B Translating a Part Program into PC-DMIS

This section of the manual should be changed to exclude TUTOR file types from the translate-into-PC-DMIS process. It should now read: "Translating a Part Program into PC-DMIS: Introduction PC-DMIS will allow a user to take part programs that were created in DOS or Avail and translate them to run in PC-DMIS for Windows. The original part program must have been created using Avail or PC-DMIS (DOS) version 3.1 or higher in order for the translation process to be available. Note: Importing Tutor for Windows part programs will not be available in this release. The main topics in this chaptersection include: · Creating a Part Program File · Importing a Part Program File Creating a Part Program File To translate a file, the following procedure must be followed: DOS to Windows 1. Using DOS, start up PC-DMIS. The Active Parts list will be displayed. 2. Click the POST button from the menu list. 3. Select the part program to be translated. PC-DMIS will display the Post Options menu. 4. Select the DIMS CMDS button (DIMS commands) from the menu list. PC-DMIS will ask for the Output File name. 5. Type the appropriate file name, followed by the three-character extension. It is suggested (but not mandatory) to use the extension ".dim". 6. When PC-DMIS is post processing the part program, it will ask you to enter the name of a PC-DMIS for Windows Probe File. Type the appropriate name. 7. Make sure that it is a probe file being used for Windows. 8. Press the ENTER key. 9. When the post processing is complete, PC-DMIS will display a message asking you to press any key to continue. PC-DMIS will then return to the Active Parts list. 10. Exit out of PC-DMIS for DOS. Avail to Windows Avail files do not need to be translated in order to run in PC-DMIS for Windows. It is recommended (but not necessary) that the files are saved with a LLF*.* file name. Simply follow the instructions located in "Importing a Part Program File" on page B-2 below. Importing a Part Program File The following procedure should be followed when importing a part program file. The process is the same regardless of the file type. DOS and Avail Files 1. Start PC-DMIS for Windows by double clicking on the appropriate desktop icon (or by selecting the desktop's Start Button | Program Files | PC-DMIS For Windows). PC-DMIS will load and show the Open File dialog box. 2. Click the Cancel button to close the dialog box. 3. Select File | New to create a new part program. The New Part Program dialog box will appear. 4. Type a new part program file name and other information as needed. 5. Click the OK button. The dialog will close and PC-DMIS will open the Probe Utilities dialog box. 6. Click the Cancel button to close the Probe Utilities dialog box. 7. Select File | Import. PC-DMIS will ask you to save your file. 8. Click the SAVE button. PC-DMIS will display the Post In Data dialog box. 9. Select the appropriate input data type (DIMS or AVL) from the Data Type box. 10. Highlight the correct file. If it was saved with a .DIM / .LLF*.* extension, PC-DMIS will automatically display all available files with the appropriate extension. If necessary, change to the correct directory. 11. In the Post in Data dialog box select either the Merge option, or the Replace option to merge with or replace the current part program. 12. Click the OK button (or press the ENTER key). PC-DMIS will translate the DIMS/AVL data and return to the part program. Your part program is now ready to run in PC-DMIS for Windows."

Appendix D PCDLRN.INI File

The text for the topic "Default Point Info Type" should read: "The Default Point Info Type entry controls whether or not the dimension or feature type will be displayed in the point info output in the Graphics Display window." The text for the topic "Default Point Info ID" shoud read: "The Default Point Info ID entry controls whether or not the dimension or feature ID will be displayed in the point info output in the Graphics Display window." The text for the topic "Default Point Info Columns" should read: "The Default Point Info Columns entry controls whether or not the column lines will be displayed in the point info output in the Hyper Report window." The text for the topic "Default Point Info Leader" should read: "The Default Point Info Leader entry controls whether or not the point info objects created in the Hyper Report will be created automatically with leader lines drawn to existing CAD or analysis objects in the Hyper Report."

Appendix E Using a Wrist Device

The first sentance of the "Option 1" topic should read: "In the Probe Utilities dialog box (found in Utilities | Probe), select the Add Angles option."
