v3.5 Errata and Addendum for
"Using the Online Help"

ADDED JUNE 01, 2002:
In the foreign language versions, the topic "An Overview of the Help File's Interface" should have the following description of the "Locate" button added to its list of other buttons and options. Locate - This button synchronizes the topic you're currently viewing in the main display with the expandable and collapsible view of the topics in the Contents tab, essentially locating the topic in the Contents tab. This is usually done automatically.

ADDED AUGUST 10, 2002:
For the English printed and foreign language versions, a new topic was added to this chapter:

==Getting Help by Pressing the F1 Function Key==

You can press the F1 function key at any time to bring up the online Help. You can also use the F1 function key in different contexts to find specific topics more quickly:

  • Dialog Boxes: Access a dialog box. Press F1 while it's still open and PC-DMIS displays the Help topic associated with that dialog box.
  • Toolbar Icons: Hover your mouse over a toolbar icon until the tooltip appears. Press F1. PC-DMIS displays the Help topic that discusses that icon.
  • Menu Items: Hover your mouse over a menu item (not over a menu heading) on the menu bar. Press F1. PC-DMIS displays the Help topic associated with that menu option.
  • Commands: Access the Edit window. Place it into Command Mode. Click on a command and press F1. PC-DMIS displays the Help topic associated with that command.

ADDED AUGUST 15, 2002:
For the foreign language versions, the Online Help that was eventually distributed was the Windows 95/NT Help type (help with a .hlp extension). The
"Using the Online Help" chapter however was originally written for those who would have the HTML Help version installed (help with a .chm extension). Because of this, foreign language users should ignore these topics:

  • "An Overview of the Help File's Interface"
  • "Searching the Help Using Natural Language Queries"
  • "Storing Favorite Help Topics"
  • "Changing Help File Options"

For specific information about using the standard Windows 95/NT WinHelp online Help platform, consult your Operating System's Help file.
